Hello everyone,
We had an issue few weeks back on two volumes and TSM made those 2 volumes to Unavailable state. They are present in our IBM 3584 library but 1 voulme is not detected in TSM and 1 volume is showing in TSM. I tried CHECKIN commands but it is not detecting the volumes. I know AUDIT library should fix this issue but I cant get the downtime for the production.
Can you provide me any checkin command for volume to detect through TSM which is already present inside the library? Thanks.

I tried checkin using your command but there are other volumes which I am not aware got checked in. TSM defined them as Private but I can see them as Scratch in TSM. Something went wrong. Where do you think these volumes were sitting before - I/O station? When I am starting this process there were no volumes in I/O station...Could you verify logs?

Command - 'checkin libv TSM_library search=b checkl=b stat=priv waittime=0'

For the above confusing statement, I mean, I am performing this operation to detect 2 Private volumes which are not visible through TSM. When I used the above command there are few other volumes which were checked in as Private. Those volumes were supposed to be scratch but I checked them using Private.

Mike,
I moved volume to I/O Station and checked in for single volume but I am receving following error. I think slot is reserved by some other volume..Check below logs.

04/26/11 16:43:50 ANR8300E I/O error on library TSM_Library (OP=00006C03,

04/26/11 16:43:50 ANR8426E CHECKIN LIBVOLUME for volume Z2910L4 in library

Initially, I am testing only for single volume rather trying all volumes because TSM is checking in Virtual slot volumes as well. I gave below command for the logs I pasted in previous comment..

CHECKIN LIBVOLUME TSM_Library Z2910L4 status=private

Your last error looks like there's a tape stuck in the drive.

If TSM encounters an error loading in a new scratch, and it believes it may be a tape problem, then it will set the tape to private. I suspect these 'private' tapes do not have a last_use; if that's the case, then just UPD LIBV to set them back to scratch.

As for this 'missing' tape, I would first run an internal audit within the 3584 itself.

Dan,
I can see the tape in I/O station and moreover it is not Scratch-It is in filling state with 85%. I wish I can run Audit and resolve it in few mins but I can buy down time in my production house...!!!
I am only confused of this error, Why is it trying to checkin only into this slot, Why not other empty slots? I can see Z2910L4 in I/o station...

Recently, When I am doing same operation for single volume it throws me below error, Why is it checkin' different volume when I specified single volume command...CHECKIN LIBVOLUME FLETCH_1 DM2910L4 status=private search=b

04/26/11 17:14:19 ANR8384E 027: Incorrect volume (FC0794L5) inserted into

I'm talking about an 3500 audit through the management GUI, not through TSM. You should be able to do that while TSM is running.

Does the 3584 allow you to create logical libraries? If so, you have to designate which logical library you want the library to put the I/O tapes in. If I put tapes in my 3310 I/O door, but do not select a logical library, TSM will throw an I/O error, and it looks as if it is a slot error.

If you have a logical library created, make sure you tell the library that your I/O tapes are allocated to that logical library. Mine pops up on the front panel as soon as I close the door with tapes in it.

If the volumes that TSM can't "see", are already in the tape library, you would need to do a checkin libv FLETCH_1 search=YES status=private checklabel=barcode. You could also do a checklabel=yes, if you really wanted to be certain that the physical tape label, and the tape header information, are in sync. I am assuming here that these are data volumes, not scratch volumes. If they are scratch tapes, use status=scratch.
