Actually this is not an accurate statement. The versions you list
below are examples of Linux distros that meet the qualifying
reqs for ITSM client support. Those reqs are listed in the
README file that ships with the client software. I quote from it
below:
.
Backup-Archive Client
-----------------------------------------------
The IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Backup-Archive client requires
the following software in order to run:
Linux kernel 2.4.x (for x=2 or higher)
glibc 2.2.x (for x=2 or higher)
libstdc++ 2.9.x (for x=6 or higher)
X Windows System X11R6 (for end user GUI only)
RPM 3.0.x or 4.0 (for x=0 or higher)
For EXT2/EXT3/XFS ACL support you also need acl-2.0.19-17
package.
Note: Please note that X Windows System X11R6 is a requirement to
install the client. If it is not installed and you do not plan
to use the end user GUI you have to add the --nodeps option of
rpm to disable the check for requirements.
Please use one of the following Window Manager Systems:
Gnome, KDE 2, Exceed
Note: KDE 2 does not display window frames for some windows.
Linux distributions that fulfill these requirements include:
SuSE 8.0, 8.1, 8.2 and SLES 8
Red Hat 7.3, 8.0, 9.0 and RHEL 2.1
RHEL 3.0 (*)
(* you need to install the compat-gcc-c++-7.3-2.96.122.i386.rpm)
Turbo Linux 7.5 and 8.0
United Linux 1.0
Note: The client was certified by Tivoli for these distributions.
Please verify for other distributions that the software requirements
listed above are fulfilled.
