Hi!

We have an environment with one TSM 5.5 Server on Windows 2003 x64 backing up >120 servers.

We've just started to deploy Windows Server 2008 Clients but the TSM Clients hang during System State backup. Sometimes it eves crashes alltogether and writes a dsmcrash.dmp We use the newest client 5.5.0.6.

Is anyone succesfully running TSM backups on Windows Server 2008?

Try to :

Define LANGUAGE ENG in dsm.opt.
Define all environment variables (DSMI_DIR, DSM_CONFIG, DSM_DIR and DSM_LOG).

Thanks for your reply but why would it help to define the environment variables?

I've reported this error to IBM TSM Support att uploaded my dsmcrash.dmp file to them so I will hopefully get an answer soon.

We are having the same problem and would be very interested in what IBM has to say about it. Please update if you get any news

I've just got an email from IBM TSM support which confirm the bug.

The official word is that this is fixed in the upcoming 5.5.1 Client which will be released at the end of June.

I've also got four files as a temporary fix which will fix the problem until the 5.5.1 Client is released.

Sounds good, at least we know they are wokring on it..

Would it be possible to get hold of those files?

Turned out that IBM sent me the eFix for x64 architecture by mistake so now I'm waiting for the x32 eFix...

BubbaSmith: Send me a PM

I also need the X64 fix for 2008 Server. Can you point me in the right direction?

Hello Everyone.

I am just trying out the new release 5.5.1.0 client on Windows 2008, 64-bit. I am almost done and it does work fine. However, the server is a file-server only (so not Exchange, AD etc).

And there is also a newly updated document about using Windows PE and TSM to restore your computer. This explains quite a bit and helped me a lot. The URL for this is

http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27005028&aid=1

Has anyone tried to backup / restore a Windows 2008 so far? Would be nice to exchange thoughts.

Many greetings,

Torsten.
