Hello all,

We are backing up a single 3+ TB database via LANfree directly to a fiber attached TS3100 library with a single LTO4 drive.

How many stb_tape channels should we use for backup? What is it limited to?
-Number of tape drivers?
-Number of physical disks?
-Just keep giving more channels and test until you find the best performance?

Appreciate any help I can get.

Regards,

K

Hi,

one sbt_tape channel <=> one physical drive

If you do specify more, only one works and the rest sits there and waits.

Great! Thanks a lot. Just the answer I was looking for. :)

At the risk of sounding like a noob, i receive the following questions from the DBA, and I'm not sure about the answers:
-Media Manager file name restriction (i didn't find any in the TDP Oracle documentation) -Media Manager max file size (didn't find any in the TDP Oracle documentation)

Hi,

TDP for oracle is very simple - it does no have any executable performing backup - it just points the sbt_tape to TSM.
So everything not related to this redirection is managed via RMAN.
