We have some very old backups that exist for storage groups that no longer exist in MS Exchange that we can't seem to get rid of in TSM. IBM support tech does not seem to know much about the issue and is researching whether or not a tdp client command line or GUI option for deleting or inactivating versions exists. We can't get rid of filespaces because they still contain some valid storage groups. We are running TSM server 5.4.2.0.

Hi,

strange thing ... are the versions active or inactive? Do you run full Exchange backup (I mean all SG - like "TDPEXCC BACKUP * .....") so it checkes all SGs .....
I do not know of any TDP for Exchange command to delete/inactivate object but there are other ways - like deleting the right object_id from TSM DB - it is not supported and risky, so use it as a last resort (and under guidance of IBM techsupport) - it was published as a solution for removing old Oracle backups - but works for any object.

select state,hl_name,ll_name,object_id from backups where node_name='[Exch_NodeName]' and backup_date < '2007-06-01 00:00:00'

delete object 0 [Object ID Number]
(for the right objects)

Again - be VERY careful and try the other solutions first.

Harry
