Hi again,

we have to do a sizing of a "maybe-to-come" TSM project, and I thought maybe somebody here could give me some useful hints based on his experience with bigger environments.

Here some facts:
400 servers
25TB of data
mostly Red Hat ES 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0
some Windows, HP-UX and others
Library with 4 drives

What would you say, how much TSM servers would be necessary?

Every consideration is appreciated!

Hi Bonobos,

that depends on what kind of Hardware the TSM server is supposed to run. I would suggest 2xp550 with AIX full system partition and a shared Library setup. To size the Diskpool you have to consider the size of the daily backup.
The TSM database size might be very relevant as well.

To size a system like that, you will have to have more information.

Cheers,
Marcus

Hi,

thanks for your reply, the customer has mostly HP and SUN hardware, so he probably wants HP server(s) and TSM running on Linux (as I suspect).

The customer (still) has HP Data Protector with backup to disk, and for archiving an old LTO1 library.

The customer has several problems with the backup, so TSM should solve them! (NDMP backup over network shares - very slow, backup window too short in general ...)

Further he will have a 3500 library with three "Jaguar 3" or four "Jaguar 2" drives.

I don't have more information so far ...

Thanks for your hints!
