i have installed client software on a sap/oracle server and have set environment variables DSMI_DIR and DSMI_CONFIG yet when i try to run a backup it says that
"BKI5012E: Cannot open TSM API message text file. Check if DSMI_DIR is set correctly.
Current value of DSMI_DIR is: /usr/tivoli/tsm/tdp_r3/ora64"

this used to work, i don't know why it is no longer working.

i have ensured that permissions on the ora64 directory allow the oracle user access.

which specific file is it referring to? what is the TSM API message text file?

There is the Backup/Archive client (BA Client) the API Client and the TDP. All three must be installed and configured correctly for the TDP for SAP to work.

I had the similar problem:

BKI2027I: Using TSM-API version 6.4.1.3 (compiled with 5.3.0.1).
BKI2000I: Successfully connected to ProLE on port tdpr3ora64.
BKI0005I: Start of program at: Fri 04 Jul 2014 12:10:06 AM CEST .
BKI1214E: TSM Error:
Cannot open ADSM API message text file.
Maybe DSMI_DIR is not set correctly?
Current value of DSMI_DIR is:
BKI1201E: There are no Tivoli Storage Manager-Servers available.
BKI1203E: Not enough sessions available (1 required and 0 available).

Turns out that PROLE process had to restarted. That solved the problem for me.
