reuse LTO tapes?

if one cannot degauss an LTO tape, how do you reclaim it for use again? do you simply overwrite the label and the data gets wiped out? or do you need to have a drive dedicated to erasing the content? can anyone give me a spec on how fast a drive can erase a LTO tape in this case? thanks.

If you would like to reuse your LTO tapes, you would simple re-label them. Using this cmd

label libvol lto search=b labelsource=b checkin=scr overwrite=y

The library would put a new header on the tape based upon your barcode and simply check the tape in as scratch. You see, with the new header on the tape, even though technically you still have data on the tape, Tivoli has no idea what it is, so it overwrites.
