Hi all,

I'm posting because I have an problem here.

I need to restore a mailbox that was backed up in 2009 on ServerA. That server was decomisioned on 2010 and the data was migrated to ServerB.

Now I need to do a restore on Server B of the databases backed up on ServerA.

I tried to do the restore and it shows this error:
ACN5798E MS Exchange API HRESERESTORECOMPLETE() failed with HRESULT: 0xc7fe1f42 -Database not found.

IBM provided me with this link:
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21312962

And it says: Yes, it is possible to perform an alternate restore to the Recovery Storage Group on an alternate machine as long as the originating Exchange Server and the alternate Exchange server both exist together in the same Administrative Group.

The Exchange Admin (And I must defer to him on this because my Exchange knowledge is slim) says that the only way for him to add the original server is to have it up and running, But I no longer have my old server active.

Suggestions please!!!

Exchange Version: 2003
TDP Ex: 6.1
Baclient: 6.1

Ummm, but I need to mount the database, because The Exchange Admin he uses ExMerge to get the data he needs, and needs the database to be mounted in order to work.

Any other suggestions??

IBM suggested a Restore Legacy Full, but I must admit here, my command line abilities are pretty rusty.

look for a software call mailretriever. This is what we use when we cant or will not mount the database. I,ve use it more than 10 times and works like a charm! This will extract the e-mail from the EDB file. and it dont need to be mounted. Woorks with exchange 2007 and 2003.(i've test it) i will add that i was able to restore mail from a corrupted DB once.

It's even getting worse, I asked the exchange admin to recover a database from 2 days ago and it gives me this error:

Start your exchange GUI with this command
tdpexc.exe /traceflag=service,api /tracefile='c:\traces\ErrorRestore.txt'

This will give you more info on why it failed.
