Hi,

I have a tape in the primary storage pool that keeps getting marked "unavailable" everytime reclamation is run. How do I make a copy of this tape before deleting it ? How do I delete it do i just change the status to "destroyed" ? Once this is done can I just unload the tape and throw it away ?

Thanks in advance, sorry if this is a "novice" question but I am new to TSM.

:p

Hi ,

Yes the tape is in the library and I have done an audit library too. It seems to load the tape to perform reclamation , names some files inaccessable then marks the tape unavailable ..

Thanks , Cartman

Yes , here is what I get :

This doesn't look good

I guess you already tried reading the tape in other drives.

If these files are still on the server my only idea is to move data to another tape and then start an incremental backup of this node

So to move the data I would mark the volume reado using upd vol XXXXX acc=reado , then move the data using the move data XXXXX command ?

After this do I then mark the tape destroyed and throw it away ... Is that the end of the problem then ?

Thanks, Cartman

After marking it destroyed this tape will no longer be requested for space reclamation.

But keep in mind that the unreadable files are also destroyed then.

Okay, so the unreadable files will be destroyed , but all the readable files will have been moved onto a new tape , right ?

Thanks, Cartman

Thanks for all your help , I recovered 98.2% of data and have marked the remaing tape destroyed. I have now checked it out of the library and thrown it in the bin with a smile on my face :)
