offsite vaulting

Currently my offsite tapes are slotted by VOLSER. I am charged by the number of slots needed to hold my tapes, which currently is from my lowest VOLSER to my largest. I am charged for all slots between these numbers whether they are empty or not. Does any one have a home grown process or know of software that is available that could assign a slot number for each offsite VOLSER. This way I would only be charged for the actual slots that were in use. On the mainframe we have such software, but I am looking for something that would run on an AIX box. The slot numbers should be made available for reuse when a pending tape gets deleted from TSM.

Sounds like a reasonable product enhancement request.



In the mean time, it could be a manual process with a spreadsheet,

or write/have it written by someone locally to just keep a table of

what is offsite in what assigned slot, and assign any tapes going

offsite to the first empty slot. Not hard, just takes some time.
