hi -

Client is Windows 2003
TDP is 5.5.1.0
Client is 5.5.2.0

I was having issues with the install of the client api before not showing up.
but here - I've installed everything ok and I got the initial backup.

then all backups stopped working, I played around several times with upgrades, downgrades, etc.

am back to TDP 5.5.1.0 -
but on recovery, here is my error:

Hi,

is it possible you used higher version of API or TDP for the backup? The message about format indicates that ...

Harry

32-bit / 64-bit compatible? You're using a 32-bit TDP and running on 32-bit server and 32-bit oracle?

more info:

Application Client: DP Oracle Win32 32bit
TDP Version: 5.5.1.0
Compile Time API Header: 5.4.0.0
Run Time API Header: 5.5.2.0
Client Code Version: 5.5.0.5

hi Mike -
no 64-bit going on here. all 32-bit.

hi Harry -
yes, I suspect the same but cannot get the API to work with multiple switching around even.
what info I do have (from now - not necessarily from when the original backup took place) -
is what is above.

thx -
-Chef.

Sounds like Harry is right. If you changed things around install wise is it possible you used a higher version of the TDP? Thats the only reason I could think that would keep you from seeing the data.

~ fixed ~

hey Chad - how you doing?

many thanks for the replies -
here is the ultimate 'fix' for this issue -

the new TSM Clients are putting the API to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tivoli\TSM\api instead of the old C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\api dir (on windows, obviously)

so DSMI_DIR must be set to the right place.
for this one I did have it set ot the old value -
an oversight on my part.

also - the API must be at the same level or higher of that which the backup was taken with.
as suspected...
"ANS1245E (RC122) The file has an unknown format." --> this error was coming from a lower API trying to restore the datafiles that were backed up with a higher level API.

to fix this, I moved the CLIENT (not the TDP) up to v 6.1.3.3 to get the very latest API.
(ie, I didn't use the API provided by the TDP software)

so now on Windows 2003, my restore is working with Client v 6.1.3.3 and TDP v 5.5.1.0 for Oracle, with the newest API in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Tivoli\TSM\api directory.

nifty :)
appreciate all the replies!
-Chef.
