since 5.4 ndmp allowed the use of copy pools, we are trying to set this up
we have 1 virtual tape library and 1 standard sequential tape library.
the datamover is defined to the vtl and ndmp backups appear to backup/restore fine.
However when we initiate a " BACKUP STGPOOL naspool (vtl) nascopy (sequential)" it times out waiting for a tape from the sequential library.
do i need to have the sequential zoned directly to the vtl?
do i need to create a datamover to the sequential?

how does the data for a primary pool (vtl) flow to the copy pool (sequential)

thanks

you have to zone the tapedrive(s) to the datamover, cause the datamover is doing the backup storagepool.

inestler is correct, the actual process that runs is an NDMPCOPY from the NAS device. It will duplicate the data on primary tape onto copy tape. The TSM server still knows nothing about the actual data on the tapes. Make sure your NAS has resources to do the copy or you could impact production performance.
