Hi!

$ mtlib -l /dev/lmcp0 -qD -f /dev/rmt2

mtlib: Unable to open device special file /dev/rmt2: Permission denied

where as it can access rtm3, rmt5.

Why ? :-o

I would suggest removing the rmt device and redefining it with cfgmgr. If the problem persists, there is likely an issue with the library itself and the configuration of that drive to the library.

Note: mtlib command comes from the atldd.driver. This is NOT a TSM drive but is an IBM Hardware driver.

A-o-a

I can do that, but question is why it is acting like this? it works fine with mt command, but tapeutil and mtlib can not acces rmt2. I have read some where that devices with system driver installed need system privilages to access them. precisely

"Typically, if a device does not have a system driver, normal users have permission to send SCSI device library commands. If a device has a system driver (for example, a tape drive), then system privileges ar e required in order to send a command.
