Hi all,

I have an AIX TSM 6.2 server with 80 devices on it, all of which are confused at the moment. There are 8 physical and 72 VTL drives on this system. The ADSM discovery through smit picked up the devices fine, but when trying to define paths to those devices it was quickly discovered that the mt and rmt devices were pointing at WWNs.

The mt devices might have been leftover before some zoning changes were made and didn't get updated automatically. What would the process be for cleaning something like this up? Remove all mt and rmt devices, rediscover everything all over again?

Sincere thanks,
C.J.

That would be a step in the right direction. Cleanup the switch settings if needed but I doubt if switches retain WWN info.

Reboot the actual server before attempting a rediscovery and reconfiguration with TSM.

With 80 devices things start getting confusing :)

I would recommend to rename your tape-drives with this aix-command:

chdev -l rmtXX -a new_name=LIB2FR01DR04

...and with 80 drives - a script would be nice for that job.
