Hi,

I need to change to new server hardware on TSM server ( TSM 7.1. with rhel 6.3 to 7)
I found these methods with :
- migration data disk to tape and backup - restore DB
- and with export node ?

(https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/... Servers from one Operating System to another)

Migration of data from disk to tape take long time ( using dedup on stg file ) and i need to reuse tape to new server.
I would like advise about choosing between these two methods ?

Thanks,

That technote is more to move to a different type of operating system, like Linux to AIX. You are just going to a newer version of the same OS.

There are a few methods you could migrate.
- setup the new system (OS and software)
- backup old TSM DB on old system
- switch library and SAN disks to new system
- restore TSM Server database

Or this would be longer:
- use an export to export data from old to new system
- or use node replication

Hi ,

Thanks you for reply,

In case where i not plan to keep SAN disks for the new system. I need to migrate data to library (keep for new system) for exemple.

thanks to the OP for the link! I just asked that question in another post and got it answered!

Yes, or have both the old and new system online in parallel and do an export or a node replication.
