Hi,

We have set up in our Diskpool the "Maximum Size Threshold: 10G". So files which are larger then 10Gb directly goes to tape.
We want the Full VM's backup goes directly to tape. In a test we perform a backup of a 50 Gb Vm backup to our diskpool. We don't see any tape mounted.
Is there something we miss?
Can someone help me explain this? Is there a way to check wether the backup goes to tape or to disk (pool)?

thank you,
Patrick

While the VM might be 50 GB, it is backed up in blocks and individual blocks are much smaller.

If you want your VM backups to go directly to tape, you should use a management class that goes directly to tape using the VMMC option. Make sure to use VMCTLMC to still send the .CTL files to management class that goes to disk. More information here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowl...com.ibm.itsm.ve.inst.doc/r_ve_mount_tape.html

You can issue: "query occupancy {nodename}" to see in which storage pools and volumes the data is stored.

As far as I know, TSMVE backs up virtual machines using 128 MB blocks, so maximum size threshold below 128M might do the trick, too.
