Hi everyone,

Bit of a strange question - is it possible with TSM 7.1.1.x and TSM for VE 7.1.x to go 'lanfree' to a deduplicated TSM disk pool?
Or put another way - if it is possible - is it a dumb idea?

This is the scenario:

Physical TSM for VE proxy connected to VMWARE SAN - 10gb LAN / 16gb SAN HBA
TSM 7.1 server with large (200TB+) SAN connected dedupe pool - 10gb LAN / 16 gb SAN HBA
TSM SERVER dedupe pool is raided disk with no hardware deduplication / compression.
All servers are windows 2008 R2 (at this stage).

Rather than stream this across the LAN connection can TSMVEPROXY connect direct to the TSMSERVER disk pool, backup the data and then TSMSERVER can process for backup to copypool, identify duplicates and then space reclamation?

Or is it simply better to have the VE Proxy push data across ethernet?

I can't find much information about doing this with a modern environment, only dated references to sanergy.

Appreciate any input on this as it might save me engaging IBM,

Cheers.

Awesome thanks :)
Will have a read and see how it all ties together.
