Identify Duplicates process not frozen

When I attempt to run the Identify Duplicates process, it starts up but never processes any files. It shows the state as active, and shows a current physical file size; but total files processes and extents found never reach beyond 0.

Any ideas what is causing this? The other day the processes were running for days and a can proc command did nothing to stop it. Today, however, I can stop the processes that I started this morning.
