Hello,

We have recently set-up and run IBM Spectrum Protect Server ver 8.1 on a new HP server, with local disks(storage pool containers are locally) . As a further step we would like to setup a second IBM Spectrum Protect Server, which will be the replicant of the first server. Can we setup the second server on a virtual KVM guest machine, instead of a physical machine? In both cases, we will use remote storage either with NFS or iscsi protocol. What are the pros and cons for each case?

Thank you inadvance
Maria

Make sure you size the VM for the target to match the physical specs of the source, if not, the performance may not be adequate.

Even if supported, I would still *NOT* run TSM servers on VM, period.

I don't trust VM (on Intel) technology specially I/O performance.
