IBM Director

Has anyone ever heard of the need to stop the "IBM Director" Client on an IBM xSeries Server before running a TSM incremental backup? A Windows Sys Admin I am working with says someone told him to stop the "IBM Director" application before doing a backup. This makes no sense to me, but I wanted to see if anyone else has heard of this.
