hi, all

I got a question about hardware data compression. we have IBM3583 library and 3580 Drives. the compression parameter about node data compression was set "client" on TSM server side and no parameters concerned with data compressionin in option file were set.

on hardware aspect, 3580 drive surely can support the hardware data compression (the icon on control panel means the hardware can be used for data compression).

my question is how to make sense the data compression function in 3583 library already has been activated automatically or some special things need to be done to use the data compression?

Thanks in advance!!

Generally speaking most modern compression algorithms give roughly the same compression, and with regard to the number of cores that you can use at once, it is up to you to decide how many you want to use. Lzma2 is faster when using 4 or more cores and it gives better compression. LZMA2 was created for XZ format and it includes changes that are good for that stream compression format. LZMA2 is faster for 4-threads, if you compress big file (more than 256 MB), so 7-Zip will be able to split it to blocks. More about.....7zip
