From what I have read there isn't anything you need to do to make this work, so I would be very curious if you discover otherwise. Did you use the reclaimstorage option when you did the extend dbspace? The only other thing that comes to mind would be that the TSM instance user doesn't have permissions on the new file systems.

After an extend, you should do a rebalance/reduce to actually use the newly defined space. These operations can be completed with the server online and are generally pretty quick.

HI Rowl,
Thanks for the quick reply. I just used the exdend dbspace command and no othere changes done. The file permissions are same as old file systems.

extend dbspace /tsmdb005,/tsmdb006
ANR2592I Directory(ies) '/tsmdb005','/tsmdb006' has been defined in the database space.

[root@ ~]# ls -ld /tsmdb001

Hi rgg,

Thanks for the reply. Shall i follow the given steps. Or need to check with IBM before updating the database ?.

Frank.

Hi rgg,

Can we perform the steps while backup running. Or need to stop all the backup and do while tsm instance online. Pl confirm

Your call if you want to check with IBM. I've done the process with the server running before, but it's probably not a bad idea to stop as much server activity as possible as it does move the database around, which takes significant resources to do and can impact other operations.

Hi all,

My TSM db utilization has reached 80% usage. I have ran extend dbspace for 2 new volumes. The thing is I just notice that I created a TEIR 3 fs for the new db space instead of TEIR 1. So anybody know how to remove the new created db vol location?

Thanks

There is no remove dbspace. You'll have to follow the instructions in the manuals for "moving the database"...which includes a restore db.

Moving forward you might want to consider just increasing the size of the existing file systems.

extend dbspace - rebalancing is supported by TSM 7.1

Hi all,

just for your information:

the rebalancing of new DB2 directories which are added via "extend dbspace", is now supported by TSM 7.1.

I tested it already and it works fine
