Hi,

we have an excess of scratch tapes now - so many that we cannot check them all back in - can we make some of them unvailable and use them when we next need additional tapes checking them in as scratch and changing them to read-write?

thanks in advance, jason

Hi Jason

U cannot make scratch tape unavilable.

Only volume can be made unavilable, not a lib volume

and ur scratch tapes are not even lib volumes since they are not in a lib

If the tapes are not checked in the tsm wont know of them

Close your eyes and fix that moment in your memory forever ;)

Having an exess of scratch tapes is something I'd give quite a lot for. It sounds like you have them still checked into the library (so you would still see them as libvolumes on your library manager). If that's the case, just check those out that are scratch and aren't really IN the library without checking the lable and without removing. When you need them again you can check them back in. TSM will forget about them until then. A volume that doesn't show up in the volumes tabel, libvolumes table or volume history doesn't exist for your server.
