I have a file device class storage pool with volumes with a status of 'Empty'. These empty volumes never go to scratch and are never reused. The only way to clean them up is to manually delete them.

Anyone have an idea what is going on?

TSM is 5.4

Reusedelay/drm settings have nothing to do with this.

Tgladson you don't have a problem, TSM is working exactly as its meant to.

A volume can be defined into a stgpool with the "def vol" command. When you do this, the volume becomes a member of the pool and has a state of "Empty". When these volumes become full, and are then re-emptied by reclamation, they go back to the Empty state - they do not go to being scratch tapes because they aren't scratch tapes.

If you want them to be scratch tapes, don't use def vol to put them in the stgpool to start with, and just make sure the maxscratch parameter for the stgpool is high enough...

To make the ones you have scratch tapes, just "del vol" them when they're empty.
