Hello All,

I have been reading about electronic vaulting to use it as a replacement for sending offsite tapes and I want to make sure I have the general concept right. I have 2 TSM servers (TSM1 and TSM2) in different locations. If I setup Electronic vaultinng using virtual volumes from TSM1 to TSM2 and something happens to TSM1, are these the steps to follow to restore files to nodes that belonged to TSM1?

1. Re-build TSM1 in a different physical server other than TSM2

2. Restore the Archive set (backup) from TSM2

3. I should be able to restore client node data and continue with operations as normal.

OR

Is it possible to use TSM2 and the virtual volumes from TSM1 to restore client node data that belonged to TSM1?

Thanks in advance,

BTNA

Hi,

I've been looking into the same thing. My understanding though is that virtual volumes aren't often used because they are difficult to manager (please correct me if I'm wrong on this). That was certainly my experience having tested them for a couple of weeks.

Anyway, I'm edging more towards a solution of remotely mounting the tape drives from the DR site.
