I can set the number of days with this command, but, how do I tell the tsm server what time of day to do the db backup and when to delete the volhist. I read somewhere that if using drmdbbackupexpiredays you won't use the sched t=a to run a database backup and a delete volhist to expire the database backup. how do you do it? With the expire inventory command?

Thanks!!

hi,

Description ==> Delete Volume DB in History

Command ==> DEL VOLH TOD=-5 T=DBB

when using drm I read that you aren't supposed to use the del volhist? Am I mistaken??

This is how we do it...

1. DB Backup Series Expiration Days: 5 Day(s)

2. We run a 'backup db devclass=lto type=full' each morning

We don't have problems doing it this way. The oldest DB backup expires each day and comes back. Yes, do not run delete volhist if you have DRM db expire set.

I would suggest refering back to a thread called "Expiry of DBB and plan file issue" dated

May 7, 2004 in this forum. It is a quesiton which comes up often and is pretty well answered

in that thread.

Be VERY careful about using volume history delete, it will make volumes disappear from

TSM, and you will never find them w/o some really hard searching.

Andy.
