Hi, does reclamation and expiration actually control the amount of data stored in stgpool?

Since reclamation will claim space occupied by files that are expired or deleted, I think it does directly alter the amount of data stored in stgpool.

For expiration, tsm only marks files as expired in database but this process alone doesnot actually alter the data store. So reclamation yes, expiration no.

Am I correct?

Kind of, but not quite.

Expiration happens first and when it finds objects that exceed the retention from the DB. So for sequential media, the data is still on tape, but not referenced.

From a TSM perspective, the data is gone, and no longer in the inventory. So it's no longer in any storage pools.

All reclamation does is recuperate the empty space created by the reclamation
