I want to restore a novell file space do i need to have a valid user id for tsa nds

Yes. In order to restore data you have to have a valid NDS userid. I would expect it to be the same userid as the one you performed the backup with. Must have full rights to the volume you are restoring to, a sort of admin equivalent.
