Hi :)

I see DB2/AIX64 restore timeout issues some times when large DB2 database restores run ..

ANR0482W Session 1313116 for node XXXXXX_DB2 (DB2/AIX64)
terminated - idle for more than 90 minutes. (SESSION:
1313116)

My current environment:
TSM AIX server 6.3.3.100
IBM TS3500 with LTO5 drives
AIX 6.1 OS and TSM API 6.3 with v6.x TSM Storage Agent

dsmsta.opt:
...
COMMTimeout 3600
idletimeout 90
COMMmethod SHAREDMEM

TSM Server timeout settings:
COMMTimeout 3600
idletimeout 90

Our largest database is about 2 TB

What's the recomended Storage Agent and TSM server options?

Kind regards,
Nicke

what issue concerned to the restore has the terminated session? what is the the value of resourceutilization at the client?

We think this timeout problem depends on the TSM server option ResourceTimeout.

Testing this soon.

A probable scenario: TSM server set up with "NOPREEMPT YES" & transaction logs destination and backup destination is the same tape storage pool. If yes, split them.

We have "NOPREEMPT" set to NO and separat the archive logs and db backup files to separate stgpools (disk for the logs and tape for DB backup files)

Yesterday we increased the IdleTimeout option in the TSM server and also increased the ResourceTimeout option.

Now we haven't seen any timeout failures yet, and this was probably the solution
