Hi,
I am having issues in my file server Incremental backup as post upgrade of server from Microsoft 2k8 R2 to Microsoft 2k12 daily backup time got increased from 1hrs to 5-6hrs & some times to 10hrs. I am using TSM 6.4 for backup & TSM client version 6.4.2.0 installed on server.
When i check the dsmerror.log file found messages like below. Also noted some times it gives many messages for "files in use".
11/01/2015 02:16:27 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\filesrv001\f$\Outlook_All\OutlookBackup\[email protected]' failed.
11/01/2015 02:16:27 ANS4023E Error processing '\\filesrv001\f$\Outlook_All\OutlookBackup\[email protected]': file input/output error

11/01/2015 02:55:26 ANS1809W A session with the TSM server has been disconnected. An attempt will be made to reestablish the connection.

That's a sign of networking/communication problems between the TSM Client and the TSM Server, but that would not give you a return code 12, an 8 at the most.

11/01/2015 02:16:27 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\filesrv001\f$\Outlook_All\OutlookBackup\[email protected]' failed.
11/01/2015 02:16:27 ANS4023E Error processing '\\filesrv001\f$\Outlook_All\OutlookBackup\[email protected]': file input/output error
That's the cause the backup failed with return code 12. Check this technote, it might help you troubleshoot: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21459339

Thanks I checked but found similar type of issue on another file server which shows error for some nt security on Windows 2k12 server.

TSM return code : 106
TSM file : ..\..\common\winnt\ntsecurity.cpp (1020)

I check found the link as http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21679609 but could not judge issue is with file system or folder for permissions or hardware issue with storage.

The only similarity is that the backup finished with a failure, however the cause of the failure is not the same. Finished with failure just means that, there was a failure. It's the actual error messages (pattern ANS####E) that determine the cause.

Your first backup failed with ANS4023E, more info here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21459339

This backup fails with ANS4007E, more info here: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21296077
