Hi expert!

We are about to physically upgrade an existing AIX client because of lack of power on existing server. The new client will maintain the same hostname and IP.
But the new server will have a higher level of the b-a client and the Globally Unique ID will change.

Normally, we have renamed the 'old' client to <server>_old and then defined a new client in TSM.
But is that necessary? Could we not just continue on the existing server?
Are there advantages and / or disadvantages for both options?
Thank you in advance for your answer.

No

Yes

Renaming:
- all files will be backed up
- you temporarily use more space
- clear separation of old versus new machine
Not renaming:
- simpler
- potentially not all files will be backed up. I say potentially because it depends if the files will appear different or not after the migration to the new machine
- no need to worry about deleting the old node after X days, expiration will handle it.
