Backup Isilon SMB filer

@marclant or anybody,

In order to use multiple sessions "resourceutil", do I have to break a big volumes into multiple smaller volumes(same number as resourceutil), or the "resourceutil' can break the big volume down to multiple sessions?

The answer is always it depends.

It's possible to get multiple sessions from a single large filesystem. When you increase the resourceutil, the client will start with 2 sessions as always, but increase the number of threads (sessions) as needed if there's enough work to warrant more threads, up until it reaches the maximum number of threads possible for the resourceutilization. The resourceutilization is a maximum, but not a guarantee to use that many threads.

The table in this link: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/spectrum-protect/8.1.14?topic=sessions-optimizing-multiple shows how many potential session you can have and the delay after the backup/restore is started before it potentially try to start more sessions.

The best way to know is to try increasing the resourceutilization and see if it gives you the results you are looking for.
