In Automated drives the status of the drive is unknown. I tried to update the status of the drive but got a message ?ANR8444E UPDATE DRIVE: Library LTO_3582 is currently unavailable?.

Please advice.

Sounds like possibly a hardware issue with the libr or one of its drives.

An 'unknown' status for drives spells 'you got problems'.

Is the 3582 connected to the network for you to remote in and check things out?

If not, then I suggest you review the library or have a fellow employee check

things out to make sure no tapes are stuck, or any of the drives are flashing

a led number on the front of them (aka: '6').

You need to validate your Device Drivers again. I will assume that this

Windows server was recently rebooted or a service pack applied or you configured or reconfigured your server using the Device Config Wizard. The reason why I say this is within your comments you identified some valuable clues.

First one being the library - You Changer0 is Windows Default. Another clue RSM - you need to disable this service from the Admin tools area. The third clue your libraries have different device driver versions. Another clue - Manual Library - I do believe this should be either an External or Automated library.

You have a bit of work to do to fix this:

First - update your drivers - go to the FTP site and download the latest version and perform the install. Second - remove your paths, drives and library. After you have done this - enter Device Manager and reconfigure the device drivers to pull in IBM manufacture drivers - Use the advanced option, deselect the search for similar devices, this will bring up the entire manufacture list - select IBM and your see the drive listed for TSM devices.

This will need to be applied to each library and drive. Once completed - Reboot - with RSM disabled. Upon startup - validate drivers took.

If they took - redefine your Automated library and drives. Then assign their paths.

By once configured - if you do your queries - the correct information should appear.

Good luck with this - hope this helps

Steven

Hi sgabriel62,

You were right, the server was restarted and the drivers were not initialized properly,

i restarted the library(waited till the status of the drive was ready), and then restated the server. It worked fine. Thanks for your help.

I had the same problem with a Windows Server Pack update, I reinstalled tape and library drivers and it worked fine, I managed without a restart.
