Hi,

we use an ADIC Scalar 100 DLT -Library with TSM 5.1.5-Server (Windows 2000).

For a few weeks now, we have the problem, that we are not able use any fresh-checked in DLT-tapes.

I´m able to checkin the new tape. It´s marked as scratch and all seems to be ok.

When TSM trys to use this tape for the first time, this error occurs:

ANR8355E I/O error reading label for volume 000051 in

drive MT5.0.0.1 (mt5.0.0.1).

ANR8778W Scratch volume 000051 changed to Private Status

to prevent re-access.

The tape is set to "private" - and that´s it!

We have tried all you can think of:

- changed the tape by one from another manufaturer

- changed the barcode-label

- changed the DLT-Drive (Quantum DLT 8000)

All the other (old) tapes in the lib are working fine - they change from private to scratch and from scratch to private - as designed.

On the ADIC-Hardware we could not find anything wrong.

Does anyone know what to do?

First question is; did you label the tapes? That is what happens to us when the operators forget to label new tapes and the checkin job runs.

Johannes,

After you confirm that a bar code label is on the tape, run this from the command line:

label libvol "?" search=b labelsource=b checkin=scr overwrite=y

The "?" is the name of your library in TSM. This will force the tape to be mounted in the drive and label the header of the tape so it matches the bar code. Check the act log to make sure it was successfull.

The reason you are getting an error is because the header of the tape is corrupt. By using the command above it will overwrite the bad header with a new one and you will be working fine.

Lets us know what happens.

Hi tneedham and AndyRH!

It works! :) :) :) :) :)

Thank you for your quick reply!!!

I´ve first checked out the faulty tapes with the options "force=yes" (when I tried it with "force=no" Tivoli refused to check out >>I/O error reading label<< ) and "remove volume=no" (because I´ve no bulk-slot)

Then I checked them in again with

label libvol lb6.0.0.2 search=yes labelsource=b checkin=scr overwrite=y

and after that Tivoli used them correctly.

Thanks again!

Best regards,

Johannes
