Hello,

We are planning on replacing our nSeries filer and were wondering if there is any way to configure the new filer within TSM to be seen as the old filer, with access to the old backups etc.?

Or would we need configure TSM with a new node/datamover and start with fresh backups from the new filer? If this is the case how would we restore data from the old backups?

Hope someone can help.

Thanks

Paul.

As long as the new filer is same vendor then you can update the datamover definition for old filer with hladdress of new filer and restore older backups to the new box. You'll also need to generate the ndmpd password for same admin ID and update that on datamover definition.

Only way this won't work is if you're replacing an N-Series with EMC or another vendor since data formats are different between each vendor.

Thanks for the reply.

I forgot to mention that both old and new filers are nSeries so hopefully there shouldn't be a problem.
