Greetings,

We are having a problem with adding a new drive to our existing i500 library. We currently have 2 LTO2 drives that work fine. When we went to buy a new one, we could only get an LTO3 drive. No problem, we were told, just tell it to behave like an LTO2 drive and all will be sweetness and light.

We have added it to the library, loaded it into TSM and everything seems happy. TSM can see the drive, as can the OS and the library software. However, we cant actually get TSM to use it....Our outside (paid) TSM expert seems to think its an OS and driver issue, but I remain to be convinced.

System is TSM 5.3.5 running on Win2k3, library is a Scalar i500.

I'm sure we must have missed something, but cant imagine what. Any ideas? Let me know what you may need info wise for a resolution.

Ev. :)

Hi,

sure that the library supports this mixed mode?
Is the manufacturer of the drives the same?

Have you really added this new drive to the TSM by defining new paths and so on?

What does actlog say?

You may have to do the following at TSM level:-

1. delete path to existing drives & delete drives
2. redfine drive & drive path
3. upd devclass <devclassname> format=<ultirum2C>
Format is the write capablility that your drive support.
tsm>show libr
Check the read support (RD capabilities) & write support (WR capabilities) for the drives in TSM.

Thanks,
