Hi,

We have a IBM Ultrium Tape Library with four drive.

And we use TSM platform for our R/3 systems. On the

server on which the ULT is connected, there is also

a 4mm Tape drive. And we want to use this manual tape

drive via TSM Server. I mean, we have already use Library

and its automated drives for backup. Daily backups are

performed using this ULT. What we want to do is we just want to

take monthly backup via 4mm Tape Drive without chnaginig any shcedule

of ULT drives. All daily backups will be continued in ULT and an extra

backup of R/3 or filesystem will be taken into 4mm Tape Drive.

Is there any way of defining 4mm Tape Drive to TSM Server?

ANd if it can be defined, how can we add a monthly backup for

this manual tape drive without changing any other schedule of TSM?

does this kind of operation need to create extra Management Class or What?

Thank You In Advance...

Hello There

Yes you can define a 4mm drive to your TSM.

I did it for backup db purposes.

However since this is a MANUAL drive you need to define the Devlass+drive+Manual libr.

You can create a specific mgmgtclass to work infront of yjis drive.

You need to MANUALLY label volumes for this drive.

And also Manually insert them.

Good luck

Hello Muki,

Thank your help.

I have did what you and heada said:

I have defined

Dev Class for 4mm tape

Manual Lib

Manual Drive

Strg Pool

Volume

and Mng class to use them all.

Then i tried to backup R/3 backup with TDP_R3

It gives th error:

MC_4_4MM_TAPE_STGPOOL, TSM-Server: SERVER_A .

BKI5005E: Tivoli Storage Manager Error:

ANS1312E (RC12) Server media mount not possible

Is there any way testing my manul lib and manual drive via TSM?

How can I test that my DDS is accesible via TMS? etc...

It is solved. After making volume label, tsm has ejected the drive but i tried to use

DDS tape. After inserted the cartridge, it worked...
