I am kind of new to TSM. My copy pool (single tape volume) is not collocated and hence has data from several clients.

For recovering from a site disaster, at the remote TSM server I am contemplating a faster recovery of my TSM clients by restoring the copy pool data to my primary disk storage pool before I start the restore from my clients. I am hoping the restore can then be initiated by all clients in parallel and restore will happen from my primary disk pool and hence will be much faster.

Will this work? Has anyone tried this on TSM V 5.1 on W2K?

Page 219 of Disaster Recovery Strategies with TSM (Redbook) says - if client machines are damaged, restore from copy pool to primary storage pool has to be done only after all clients are recovered. WHY?

Thanks

It looks like the idea is to have the initial restores done directly from tape.

If you can spare the time, you could restore the storage pools first, but I

find normally I have people standing around saying 'hurry up'. My guess

is that is what was being addressed in the Redbook.
