Hello All. We're having an issue with the 8 digit barcodes. Here's the scenario:
We have a 3584 library that has the 8 digit label by default so all my lto3 tapes read A00000L3 when I do a "q libvol".

We're doing a DR right now and we had to use part of an SL8500 that has Gresham software as the libmanager, but now it appears as if the "L3" part of the labels is being ignored by either Gresham or the SL8500 library. Whenever we attempt to restore data we get "volume unavailable blah blah blah" errors.

Any know if there's a way to get the libmanager to see the L3 suffix in the tape volsers? Unfortunately at my regular location we use all 8 digits, but the DR library is not too happy!!
Thanks all in advance!!!

Sergio...

You probably already figured this one out already, but there is an option in IBMtape to pass back either 6 or 8 characters, depending on what OS you're on. You usually always want 8 these days, although there are some setups that still stick to 6 (not cool).

sergio.morales-

If you are running an IBM library, check the library specialist, under Logical Library. You can modify to 8 digits.

Also if this is a AIX server, there's a setting under smitty.
