7.1 problem when trying to start

Hey guys as in topic. After fresh install - different user created for instance, db2 profile file on place even when trying to go with root account always same problem. Already did try to export paths not working also followed almost every possible guide from IBM official page but none of this works, seriously need help. Any ideas?

no, guide of ibm said to create user for tsm instance which i did, neither user as seen on screenshot can start tsm. root and tsminst1.........

From your screenshot earlier, dsmserv.opt was not found, that tells me that not all the config steps were performed.

If the wizard had been used, the dsmserv.opt would have been created for you, so you likely followed the manual steps. My recommendation is that you follow all the steps here:

Make sure you have done all the steps outlined in bullets 1 to 4. That includes clicking on each hyperlink in these steps and perform those actions too.
 
Dear Marclant, I did run everything with wizard from very beginning. I even before running wizard went through all possible libraries and if they were required on top I did installed them - SuSe by default require few of them. That's the status after "fresh" install done by wizard. I also went through manual handbook from IBM. Also your link don't work but I got the one from IBM knowledge page but that doesn't resolve issue. I did everything I could with google/bing before asked question here. Yet still stock in this place (that goes to problem with tsm not here - I like being here:)).

well I did power through several problems and new one came in........... :
As you can see every possible variable and path is configured for both users (root has been also granted db2 rights according to IBM instructions)...... but he doesn't care. Now quick google is showing that this problem normally occurs when using client(s) version and this is server but he just don't care.......

and more importantly why after automatic installer of IBM it's going with admc to client................. ?? is that some kind of hidden feature of ibm?

2. Can someone please explain me why DSADMC is trying to be in "client-mode" instead to be working like normal human being as FOR SERVER???????????

dsmadmc is a client component, it needs a minimal dsm.sys and dsm.opt to work.

So create: '/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.sys' and '/opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin/dsm.opt' and add at least one server stanza pointing to this instance.

Why? The server is up and running, you just need to configure the client option file so that dsmadmc can connect.
 
ok so............ i did as I said went back with virtual machine andddddddddd manually step by step follow instructions from IBM of their official page https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGSG7_7.1.3/srv.install/t_srv_install_luw-linux.html .

Now instance seems to be running connection to db2 everything. I even installed client just for sake of dsmadmc.............................................

problem is that it's asking me about login and password and I've been reading several time through installation notes there's no step to create user inside TSM itself - system YES - DB2 YES - grant ROOT db2adm YES.......

what I should do now? I got server which I cannot access.............. unless there's hidden account?

I did used only defaults such as user ID tsminst1 and same for folders and everything else.

root si not a TSM id. When you created your TSM instance using the wizard, at some point you were asked to create a TSM account and password. This is the account you need to use in dsmadm.
If you can't remember the account you created, you will need to kill TSM and start it in foreground as user tsminst1. Then you will be able to create a TSM account.
 
I hope you saw few lines higher, on one console I had open started dsmserv and on second console I did try to log in as a : tsminst1, root, admin, administrator and all that failed. By any time whatsoever I was not asked to create admin user within TSM. That's what's missing in manual steps of this instruction therefore my problems........

so did try again with GUI installation and after installation another step is to start server now what I got amaze me even more :

What I'm missing I do have dsmserv.opt in correct location all rights are on place, profile (userprofile, usercrshc and db2 profile) consists everything that is required from IBM instruction so why it does not start? Someone PLEASE
 
ok guys girls and everyone on this very planet.............

so the things that need to do are :

install client on top of server at least with SLES 11 SP2 edition to connect with DSMADM...

and you have to manually copy file libgpfs.so to /usr/lib and give it at least 555 me personally did 777 :D.

that made the trick........

been through that and started instance but was not able to login as pasted logs showed..... that's a reason why I did explain howto make it work on SLES maybe rhat got different libs or different interpretation, dunno that yet at least
 
  • ps -ef | grep dsmserv and kill the dsmserv process
  • Now start it in foreground
    • su - tsminst1
    • cd /tsminst1
    • /usr/bin/dsmserv TSM should now start in foreground. Don't let it run in this mode except for troubleshooting.
  • You will be able to run commands and create an admin account or reset the password for an existing admin
    • register admin bob mypassword (Just an example)
    • grant auth bob cl=system
  • Use a second shell to try dsmadmc with the user you just created
  • If it works, use the halt command to stop TSM.
  • Start TSM if the backgroung
