Hi there

I currently have a TSM Server 5.2 running on AIX 5.3 (ML06). The TSM is 200GB big.
I would like to install a second instance on the same AIX Server, possibly running TSM 5.4 or 5.5?

Is it possible to run 2 TSM instances on different versions on the same AIX machine?

Can I only migrate from TSM 5.2 to TSM 5.4?
Can't I do a fresh installation (instead of migrating)?

My dilemna is:
I would like to have a small TSM DB as the second instance?
I just realised that I can install a default TSM 5.2 server on the second Instance and then migrate to TSM 5.4 / 5.5.

Am I correct it what I'm thinking or am I talking nonsense?

All advice will be highly appreciated.

Regards,

i wouldnt suggest it would be a good idea running two different versions but it will probably work ok. Its just not best practice..

AIX will not allow you to install two different versions of TSM server. (installp limitation)

Maybe the following article can help you out:
http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=663&uid=swg21052631

And indeed, you can't run 2 different versions, as both instances will use the same /usr/tivoli/tsm/server/bin files. Configuration files (dsmserv.opt, dsmserv.dsk, etc.) for each instance will be in a seperate directory. Take a look at the IBM article, it'll help you.
