SAN media server is a complete media server license with the ability to
ONLY back itself up, no other clients.

SSO is the ability to share tape drives, generally via a SAN.  These are
two different licenses and may be needed if your NetBackup client
would like to back itself up from block level storage (local file
systems) to a streaming device (SCSI/FC tape drive(s)) directly,
where the tape drives are directly attached to it and also used by other
media servers.
