The limited number you're seeing is for two reasons.

While VTLs have definitely taken off, _dedupe_ VTLs are just beginning
to take off, with only a few hundred installs worldwide. Now if you had
said dedupe targets and NOT VTLs, you might have heard from a few Data
Domain users, since they've got an installed base of 800+ and 80% of
their customers use the NAS interface (not the VTL interface).

Another reason for the limited number may be that with NetWorker, it's
actually easier (today) to use a file-type or Advanced file-type device
than a VTL if you're going to do disk staging. It automates the process
of staging/cloning savesets from the disk to tape, then deleting them as
space is needed. If you use a VTL, that whole process is up to you and
your best shell scripter.

Thanks for the response.

I'm kind of surprised at the limited number... and I'm not sure whether
that means very few Networker installs are using VTLs or DeDup
technology, or if people are just to busy to reply:-)

Anyone else have any real world experience they can share shed light on
VTL and/or Dedup?

Thanks!

Joel
