Hey Guys,
Can anyone comment about their experience good/bad on the below
products
in a Networker environment?
Diligent Protectier
Data Domain (any dedup/vtl product)
Copan Revolution(falconstor)
Sun STK VTL(falconstor)
Any other VTL/Dedup solutions
VTLs in general? Prefer VTL or adv_file?
EMC bought Avamar, which has a dedup product. I was under the
(wrong) impression that Networker 7.4 will have some kind of
integration with Avamar, but there is no hint about that in 7.4
rel notes or admin guide.
How do I get a copy of the NetWorker 7.4 Administration Guide? I
searched PowerLink and I found the release nodes and the license
manager guide, but not the general administration guide.
It is on Powerlink (on the second page of the results for 7.4).
It is now names "NetWorker 7.4 Multiplatform Version Administration
Guide".
As far as data de-duplication is concerned, I suspect EMC will
leverage its investment in Avamar by adding de-duplication into
future RAID controllers. I was told at EMC World last month that
NetWorker 7.4 will offer reports on individual files that could be
de-duplicated, but that's all it would do in that area.
I was told that future releases of Networker (or Avamar) will
somehow provide some kind of integration between the two products.
I checked both Networker 7.4 and Avamar 3.7.1 admin guide, but
didn't find anything about that.
Thanks. I was actually told the same thing, but 'future" evidently
doesn't mean version 7.4. The closest you can get to data de-
duplication in NetWorker 7.4 is the inactive files report, which is
discussed on page 13 of the new Administration Guide. I know its not
data
de-duplication, but it will hopefully lead in that direction for the
next NetWorker version.
