I don't think it's typically a problem as long as the server is ALWAYS
at the same or newer release than the clients. The problem is when it's
the other way around. We have found cases where things worked fine, but
Legato does not officially sanction this, and if you have problems, they
reserve the right to afford you no support. There was at least one
occassion where we were were having problems backing up large file
systems on Linux clients. We upgraded the client software, and this
fixed the problem, but I don't recall if it was later than the server's
release at that time. I would be prepared to down grade if problems
occur.

Legato does have a software and hardware compatibility guide on their
web site.
