I would guess the most effective approach is to consider the ESCON
investment used up and perhaps convert to fiber or SCSI drives connected to
an AIX server keeping the 3494 investment.  I don't know what that means
from the 3590 drive standpoint: do you have to replace them or can they be
"changed" to scsi or fiber?

I think from an overall product standpoint reducing the number of platforms
supported will help overall product development by allowing more focus on
new features rather than cross-platform support.  So will we see a Linux
server?  It would seem a good idea, but there is still money to be made in
the OS arena for Tivoli/IBM so that might not be as likely as we would like.
