I would suggest the following.
1.AIX box with 8 GB RAM.CPUs AS per ur requirement(License).
If u have other applications running on the same box u need to pay per CPU
Cost.
Paging space 2*RAM as per AIX.
2.Patches up to date for AIX and TSM.
3.Network card at 1gbps.See that switches are also at same rate.
4.Apply all performance parameters to speed up backup.
Available in ADSM.ORG.
5.Disk -Use external Fiber I/F disks.Dont use internal disks .
I will not even recommend SSA.
6.We use EMC symm.
