Brian,
If you considering just migration from OS/390 to AIX box, then you need same
resources but if you want new platform to cut backup and restore times then
you need more communication channels from server to library and faster DASD
storage. If you design 4 channels(FC/SCSI) from server to library for 8
drives you backups will be more faster. For future growth TSM database(50
Gig mirrored) and disk pool( 300 Gig RAID-5) should be of more capacity. I
think 2 processor(500MHz), 2 Gig RAM, Gigabit network for backup is good
point to start. You need to put additional network adapter in heavily used
server and design backup network.
