Hi everybody,

I'm new in ADSM administration so I'm sorry if my questions are too
basics.

I hope anybody can help me on some problems that we are experiencing
with ADSM.
We have ADSM version 3.1.2.0 runing on a Sun Enterprise 1000 domain with
Solaris 2.5.1 working with 2 IBM 3590 tape devices configurated as 2
libraries (DSMLIB01 and DSMLIB02) each with separated storage pools
defined.

The problems:
1.- In the last few days the system has began to make a lot of Space
Reclamation process that take too much time to finish afecting the
completition of normal backups.

In my instalation the process makes the following steps:
        - Take a tape(1) and copy it's useful contents to a empty
tape(2).
        - Take another tape(3) and copy it's useful contents to the
second tape above (2)
        - Repeat the process until de destination tape(2) become full
with useful data.
        - Copy the tape(2) to one of the original tapes and let it as
scratch.
        - Let the rest of te tapes as scratch.

In this process all data is moved twice from one to other tape

Is there any way to make the Space Reclamation process faster?
Is there any way to take up Space Reclamation manually?

So far, I don't have plans to puchase another Tape device.

2.- Some times there are tapes that become in a strange statatus:
The tape is mounted in the drive.
When I make a "query mount" command in the DSMADMC the system
answer indicating that there are 1 tape mounted in use.
I check the system and there are not process o sessions running.

I go to the 3590 drive and I can't see any operation with the
tape.

The status I described above doesn't change for hours unless I
shutdown and start ADSM server program.
I can't use the dismount command because the tape status in IN USE.

Is there any way to force the dismount of the tapes or to change
it's status to IDLE?
I think this is a program bug. Anyone has hear about this problem?

Thanks in advance,

                Daniel Mondaca S.
